First off, sorry for how long this is.
My laptop is an Acer aspire 4315 notebook. It uses windows XP professional.
The router is called Apple airport extream, every computer in the house uses it but only my computer uses a Belkin wireless G plus mimo USB network adapter. For people who also use these you would know, when the adapter is in there are 2 things down the bottom of the screen, a thing that kinda looks like a microphone that turns green, red and grey depending on whether its connected. The other one looks like a computer, when the internet disconnect you right click on it and click repair.

So anyway, sorry for all that info, I wanted to be specific.
The other day I gently bumped the adapter and the internet disconnected. The symbol that looks like a computer disappeared and the microphone thing turned grey.
I restarted the computer, but it still wouldn't come back so I reinstalled the Apple airport program and the belkin wireless programs and every other time this has happened it worked but this time it still woudn't work.
We ended up reinstalling windows all together, whenever the other stuff doesn't work that does.
But again it still wouldn't work. It hasn't worked since. At first I thought it was the socket I was using, neither of the adapter worked, but my flashdrive does work in both sockets so it can't be that.
We think it might be the adapter playing up because we have had them a while, but is there anything else we can try? My Dad doesn't want to buy another adapter until we're sure its that because they're kinda expensive. So anything else we can try that you can suggest would be really helpful. Thanks

Sounds like that bump killed something inside the device, so you might need to get a new one

I accept as true with the previous poster, Belkin isn't crap. No-call producers are some cases staggering. as an occasion the Belkin card i used earlier (have been given it of a chum for loose), worked with out installation regardless of Linux, a uncommon capture in hardware recently. No ineffective spots or lags. Plug it in, and it fairly works. I then bodily broke it, bought a D-hyperlink (tryin to bypass up the producers), and found out that i bought a bite of trash. application jams, lags, to no longer point out that it would not paintings with the college WiFi community. So even though u get, don't get a D-hyperlink. instead of having a LinkSys, i could placed money into yet another Belkin (it worked for u earlier), and use the cost distinction to by making use of a protracted guarantee. good success.

Is your wifi turned on on your computer? Does your computer receive wifi at a library or some other place that has free wifi?

Turning off your router and waiting a minute and then turning it back on usually fixes most problems like yours.

When you use an ethernet cable from the router to your computer does the computer work?

Good luck.

Sometimes my laptop wont connect for some reason, i don't know why because all the other laptops seem fine (I also have a belkin adaptor and a Belkin router)

I normally just unplug he router itself for 10 seconds and plug it back in, This always works for me
