I had a gateway ITS Junk , i have had the machine replaced 2 times, the Hard drive has crashed 3 times, mother board replaces, cd drive, the trackpad is breakin the keyboard is breaking, i replaced the cooling fan, the internal power supply is breaking, ITS only 2 YEARS OLD

i take care of my machines too, I highly recommend that you DO NOT buy a Gateway

ON a Brighter Note

Macbook or Macbook pro

I would go for a macbook Pro

they are pricy but worth it

lots of nice features , well built

all aluminum body less parts no plastic to break- tough

, the trackpad is amazing what you can do on it

backlight keyboard auto turns on in the dark, web cam , mic

glass LED LCD screen

2.4 intel core 2 dul process i believe

2 - 4 GB Ram - the Mac OSX uses less ram than vista so u get more out of it

Starts with a 250 GB hard drive an can go up..

the only downside is some programs wont run on Mac OSX

most stuff now days does so ya

IF you must run a windows only program you can easily install windows side by side. with bootcamp so ya, an use a program called VM Ware Fussion to run Mac an start Windows side by side.

less maintenance for it with cleaning files

if you leave your mac on night once an a while it cleans most files for you..

just ur internet files need to be cleaned , slows the internet browser

if u cant do the mac , dell is 2nd best

but go with the Macbook pro

online phone, or anyone at your Apple store can help (check them out at your apple store)

TO the guy BELOW < you dont have to hold control click to right click anymore,,,

the new macs , or macbooks you can right click with the toughtpad , just put 2 fingers on it an it right clicks

There is no better overall choice in IBM Clone vs Mac. There is only better for YOU. Everyone's computer situation is going to be different, so people need to analyze themselves and decide. Don't go be trends or marketing, figure out what suits your needs best, not what suits the needs of other people.

First off, are you at a point in your life where learning a new operating system is a viable choice? This has nothing to do with age or computer abilities. Its just a straight up question as to whether or not you think you're in a comfortable position to do so. If you haven't used OS X before then you've got some learning to do. Its not a hard OS to learn, but its not Windows.

Secondly, remember that a Mac is still a computer so its still vulnerable to software and hardware problems. I'm not saying you'll necessarily encounter anything serious, but you might. At the very least you will encounter some hiccups.

So you have to ask yourself, how hands on are you with troubleshooting? If you are very hands on the Mac might still be an option. If you're not hands on then you have to look at your support network. Do you have friends, family, or classmates that are strong with Macs? How about being near any Apple certified technicians (call around to stores nearby that sell Macs and see if they have one on staff). If you're not hands on with the computers, then you're going to want some level of support nearby (or easily accessible by phone or such).

Lastly, if you are really set on making the transition but want to leave yourself a safety net, you can easily install Windows onto your Mac. Mac OS X comes built in with a software application that helps manage installing Windows onto a Mac. So as long as you have a legit license of Windows and the install disc, you can put Windows onto your Mac and use that sometimes if you really need to. This will eat away at a chunk of hard drive space though, so while it gives you some security, it does come at a cost.

The older Macbook are cheaper.

Pros Mac: Almost problem free

Cons: Propertary device, you can't get anything for your computer except from Apple. Not really a cons if you're not a techy!

Mac is better if you're not a techy, if you don't like problems...PC is known to be a problem, even if you use it correctly!

HI,

Macs have a very stable operating system but so is vista. Vista is easy to use but so is mac. The big thing for me was apple customer service and how they keep going and the big one no viruses.

Hope it helped.

ok i would go for a PC laptop that runs XP they run at about 600-800 for a good one (alot cheaper than a macbook) i can guarentee you that it wont crash on you i have had my desktop pc for about 4 years and it has not crashed once (the blue screen of death left with windows 98) alot of the mac commercials lie so dont fall for that!

i just bought the new macbook and it's great!

as for price differences, i seriously considered buying a PC. the computer itself was 700. it didn't come with a reboot disc. extra $100

didn't come with anti-virus another $100

didn't come with warranty. $275-375

there are no viruses for mac. it comes with the reboot disc. the applecare (warranty) is $183 for students. you get a free printer. you get $50 off the mac if you're a student (with student ID).

i was seriously skeptical of mac, but i have to say it's working out great!

One thing about Mac's is they are more stable than windows OS's. Also, they are a lot more fun to play with. Windows OS's get attacked more with Virus and Hackers. Windows Vista is more user friendly. The one thing about Mac's I hate is you have to hold control and click your mouse for it to right-click on anything. Windows XP is great for gaming.
