I purchased an HP Pavilion dv4t with an LED display. The laptop just arrived today and there's a sticker on the bottom that warning me that the lamps contain Mercury. True LED displays are environmentally friendly mainly because they don't contain mercury. I called tech support and they said they use Mercury in the displays. Does HP call the display "LED" to trick people into purchasing regular displays hoping we won't notice?
When I look in Dell's store, the LED display option states that such displays do not use Mercury.

LED display option states that "such displays do not use Mercury"

That is false advertising and you could threaten to sue them for this. I would discuss it with the manager of the shop who sold it to you if you are not happy.

Of course all manufacturers like big up their latest tech so don't believe everything you are told. Always best to wait a while after the new technology comes out then do plenty of homework on the product before commiting to buy.

The LED part is only the backlight. There's a hell of a lot more involved in an LCD panel than just the LED backlight portion and any of that might contain mercury.

You will find that most of the so-called "green" solutions to things actually cause more pollution than their ordinary counterparts. "Going green" is just a political scam.
