My hp laptop was running super slow so I decided to factory reset. In the middle of it it popped up the black screen stating boot device not found. I ve tried going through system configurations and messing with the bio settings. Nothing works. I ran the tests for the hard drive and they all passed. I also do not have a reset CD of any kind. Are there any other options I don t know of?

Whoever thought of imitating tablets and phones with the reset thingie on laptops and computers wasn't thinking straight.

Reseting does not solve your problems. If software problems go that deep, you format and reinstall everything from scratch.

It sounds as the the factory reset has failed for whatever reason and left you with a non-bootable disk.

You need to insert your recovery USB/DVD and reinstall the operating system. As you haven't made one beforehand you can make a recovery USB from any working computer, for Windows 8/10 you can create a USB installer from Windows media creator

For windows 10 https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO#

For windows 8 https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows8ISO

You will need a blank 4GB USB or DVD

For Windows 7 you would need to contact the manufacturer of the computer for a set of recovery disks

what procedure did you use to factory reset it...describe what you did. be aware that there are a few settings to prevent hard drive accidental erasure, so loading BIOS defaults is usually must be done before a reset to effectivley turn of drive disk sector 0 protection so that a new os can be installed. failure to do this might present a black screen where the bios is trying to ask you, do you want to overwrite sector 0. you may not be able to see the question. setting bios defaults should disable sector 0 protection so you dont get the question or the black screen. your manual tells you how to do a reset PROPERLY!
