Question:
Problems with sound from my computer?

Hi everyone,

I have this issue: I just installed Windows 7 on my old laptop which was running Windows Vista. The laptop is LG R710. I have proper sound coming from the speakers. The funny thing is when I plug in headphones or external speakers, it does not recognize them and the sound continues coming from the laptop speakers. However, it's even funnier that for Skype it does recognize the headphones/external speakers. This is the only program however, all other sounds come from the speakers. When I go to Device manager I can't find the manufacturer of the sound card. I also have this category "Other devices" - Base System Device, Base System Device, WD SES Device USB Device. When I click on properties on one of the three, I get this:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

However, when I click on update driver nothing happens. Any clues how to fix this?

Check to see if your headphones are set to be used as the default "Communication" device instead of the default device, or if both devices are set to default. If so, make the headphones default, so that Windows will use them only when they are plugged in.

Check with volume settings.

1. Plug in your speakers/headphones

2. Right click on the speaker icon in taskbar and select volume control options.

3. Put a check mark on "All devices currently playing sound".

4. Make sure you have "The default communication device unchecked".

5. Place a check mark on both speakers and headphones.

If that does not work, download and update your drivers.

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer. Find the drivers section. Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card / onboard sound. That should fix it.
