I understand vista drivers sometimes work for windows 7 on some PCs laptops ETC... but I have a sony Vaio VGN-FS840/W, I went on the website all they have is windows vista drivers for this device, windows 7 is running for the most part smoothly on this laptop as I am typing on it right now for this question, How ever the chipset does not work because all they have is the vista version and they show up as incompatable.

I know theres 3rd party websites out there some were, where people offer 3rd party drivers and what not does anyone know where I can get ahold of the chipset windows 7 drivers for this particular Laptop? sony Vaio VGN-FS840/W model number: PCG-7G2L

the operating system is windows 7 ultimate edition 32bit and sonys website does not have windows 7 drivers on this device "any and all windows 7 drivers" available would be nice, my sound is working the vista driver worked fine i'm obviously on the internet now but other then that... i need chipset and video if its a seperate driver i'm unsure.

If the manufacturing Website does not have it, don't get it from a third party site. It may not be available for Windows 7. I have an HP laptop that was manufactured and pre-installed with Vista and I upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate and there is no chipset driver update for 7. I went to the Nvidia site and it was not there.

If you cannot find the driver on the official website then you might be out of luck. Do not pay for any third party websites that say they have your driver. The are always scams and end up getting ripped off. Google it and see if anyone has found another driver that can be use!

Download the video/graphics driver from the video/graphics manufacturers support website if not available from Sony.

If there is a Vista driver that doesn't work on 7, the manufacturer could have the driver rewritten after they get the professional release of 7. The present release is a CANDIDATE - that signifies that it may still have bugs, and there could also be an RC2 (and 3 and ...). So if it doesn't work, wipe the partition and return to making use of Vista until the next RC.
