I have been using acer aspire 5517. It suddenly stopped working.
When plugged I can see the orange light for power source indicator.
When I pres power button Ii will have low humming sounds (i think fans, and cd drive turning) But no display on my screen. It's just a dark screen.
I see blue light indicator on the right side of power light indicator. But no blinking lights for processors etc.

sounds like RAM issue for me...try reseating the RAM modules once..

and also try this

1)Take out the battery,

2)Remove main supply,

3)Hold power button down for 30 secs,

4)Put only power supply in, do not put battery in

5)Turn laptop on

6)Put the battery in.

and also hook up the laptop with the external monitor see what happens..

@the person below WTF no display is not due to operating system..

WTF with the the third person knows NOTHING about computers..yeah i understand u can't even power ON the laptop..try resetting RAM also..if you don't know how to do that let a technician do that..there is NOTHING to do with the operating system...

did u get BIOS loaded in to he screen?if no?then it would be the RAM is faulty..

come to this chat i will help you http://www.eugenecomputergeeks.com/chat/

Your Problem is NOT the computer, The real problem is your operating system has crashed,

How a computer works,

On booting up the BIOS (hardware controller) checks all the hardware that's installed. the last thing it checks is the hard drive which the bios has seen, so it passes the control too, so it can boot the computers operating system up from the hard drive, Now what as happened is the MBR (Master Boot Record) is corrupt so the computer can't read it, This record is like the contents of a book that tell you what and were each chapter is, The MBR tells the computer were to go to start the operating system, but of course the contents or not there, so it can't boot the computer up.

Most people at this point will think the hard drive has crashed and go out and buy a new one, Now here is what you need to do, go to this website and download this free operating system Make a ISO boot able dvd disk, boot the computer up with the life disk, If you have any data you wont to save then have a usb flash drive handy then you can copy the files onto the flash drive.

Once the system is booted up you will see your hard drive you click on it find your files and copy them to the flash drive, then you right mouse click on the hard drive delete the partition the create a new partition which then makes space for the new MBR, then you format the drive and re install the operating system ( the new one your now using) which is far more superior and better than windows,

go to this website and download this free operating system and do what I have told you,,,

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your acer aspire 5517, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the acer aspire 5517. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your acer aspire 5517 on.

Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your acer aspire 5517 is booting up ok .

If your acer aspire 5517 boots ok, do the following,

Try System Restore first,

Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. Choose the most recent date before you the encountered problem. If it doesn't work, try the next date.

If System Restore does not fix it, as a last resort, you might need to fdisk, reformat your acer aspire 5517 hard disk clean and reinstall OS, that usually fixes all bugs. Before going that route, try following,

Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.

Scan with a antivirus program

Scan with a spyware/malware program

DEFRAG C:

CHKDSK C:

Clean up and repair registry problems with registry repair software of your choice

If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your acer aspire 5517 power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your acer aspire 5517 with the charger only. Make sure your acer aspire 5517 power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find acer aspire 5517 power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Both acer aspire 5517 battery and charger, especially its power cord/cable, need to be replaced every few years, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like topmic
