The HP Hard Disk Test may be able to fix errors while testing the hard disk drive. To correct this issue, do the following:

Press and hold the power switch for 5 - 15 seconds to turn off the notebook.

Press the power switch to turn on the computer, and immediately press the Esc key.

On the HP Startup Menu, press the F2 System Diagnostics key.

Select the Hard Disk Test option.

Once the Hard Disk Test is completed, attempt to start the notebook normally.

If the Hard Disk Test cannot fix the error .....sorry!

Absolutely! HP laptops are complete crap and I would not recommend them to anyone. They overheat even if kept close to dust free. Keyboards ignore keystrokes or introduce characters not typed. Audio quality for DJ purposes on a "Beats" laptop was intermittent crap with multiple failures and repairs.

Overall HP laptops get a D-

They are unreliable, junk, designed by someone with no thermal understanding, and they love to tell themselves how wonderful they are during your journey of losing money on their crap.

HP = Never again

Try this first:- Shutdown the notebook, remove the AC Adapter and remove the battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Now physically remove the HDD and then reinstall it again to see if this fixes the issue. If it doesn't,check out http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/How-to-test-RAM-and-HDD-Hard-Drive/td-p/301638 and run the Memory and hard disk tests.
