my driver isn't working like it used to!?

So, before when I would put CD, CDROM's and DVD's into my D drive, they would read just fine. NOW (2months later apprx.) , I put CD's and CD-ROM's into my drive and I can hear the CD spin for a bit, the LCD green light is solid for about 10 seconds and then nothing happens! What can I do to fix this!! I really appreciate any help!!

First, open the device manager and check to see that you have current drivers for the device. Use the control panel, or just hit start and type in "device manager. Then locate the cd/dvd drive, and click the drivers tab, then look for updates. If that's all good, you could have a bad drive. If it does this with all discs, and you are under warranty still, contact the manufacturer and tell them the issue. Something like this would be covered under a standard warranty, though you would have to ship your laptop to get it fixed.



Another possibility is that the "autorun" function isn't working. Before you ship it off, insert a disc, wait for the noise to stop, and then open "computer from the start menu. From there, try double-clicking on the drive, which should at this point show the disc, and see what happens. If it is NOT showing the disc, and won't open it that way, then you have a bad drive, most likely.



Sometimes even a new system can have a faulty part.
