Alright well I decided to upgrade my RAM from 512Mb to 1024Mb, or 1GB which is the max for it, and I ordered some Kingston PC 2700 200 pin laptop ram off of newegg.com for 15 bucks each. Now this laptop supports PC2100 RAM so I would think that the PC2700 would be backwards compatible like it even says on the box, but when I go and put it into the laptop itself, it won't even recognize either of the sticks, it's like they aren't plugged in at all, and I am not an amateur when it comes to computers, and I've tried everything I've could so far to get these sticks to work, but they do not want to, so do you think it is the RAM at fault here or the laptop itself? Like I said the laptop has two 256Mb Samsung DDR PC2100 sticks of ram, and I am trying to upgrade with two 512Mb Kingston PC2700 RAM. Thank in advance.

According to Crucial's website PC2700 ddr unbuffered non ECC is compatible memory for your system. If that is what you have and it still works with the original installed then it is probably DOA . Send it back for replacement.

Two thoughts. I've never seen PC2100 Ram that could be replaced with PC 2700 ram, but I've been wrong before. I wonder too, if you're using DDR2 as replacement ram, because you conveniently left out on the 2700 whether it was DDR or DDR2. You may also need to check for parity or non-parity, and ecc or non-ecc, all of which are important. I'd blame the ram, send it back to newegg or list it on Craig's List for what you paid for it, then find the proper ram at Crucial.com

Good Luck

have you tried installing one at a time of the new RAM? Maybe one is defective.

If you've already tried that, then try flashing the BIOS, if that doesn't fix it, you can either try a different brand or using strictly PC2100 RAM.
