Very slow download speeds?

Usually I don't get download speeds any faster than 150 KB/Sec and it usually drops to around 50 KB/Sec. Most of my downloads consist of music (albums, no more than 10-12 songs per album). I went to a friend's house who just so happens to have the same computer as me (Sony Vaio CR Notebook - VGN-CR120E) and her download speed for an album was 450 KB/Sec. I tried downloading the same thing while at her house and once again was faced with slow speeds, only getting 58 KB/Sec.

So, obviously, I am wondering what the problem is. Since I not only had this problem at home with my internet/wireless as well as her house with her internet/wireless, does that mean it's an issue with my laptop itself? Also, we both have the same D-Link router.

Any help would be appreciated!

Try emptying out your internet cache files

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.

3. On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

1, compare what your friend does to protect her computer.

2 compare what amount of programs are installed in add/remove programs as each program takes resources

3. compare if you have any tool bar programs installed extra to her

4 compare ram and virtual memory size

5 compare browser set up tick boxes in every screen / tab

Note Superantispyware has powerful reset tools that will set stuff back to windows defaults.

To use these tools click preferences >repairs. This may be handy to reset IE URLS if you have annoying pop ups.

Superantispyware is a good program and remember to update it before scanning. A scan may take 45mins.Just run a scan for the first attack.



Spybot – Search and Destroy

So if you don’t have a decent internet security program then perhaps run the superantispyware with your antivirus in the background.



If you sick of antivirus programs that don’t work perhaps run onecare full time and run superantispyware whenever.



Now you should be flying and Onecare has even set up a new system restore point for you.

Note onecare does other stuff as well. Click on the menus on the LHS column., but all of this is done if you click Safety Scan.
