I have an HP Pavilion DV5000 notebook (bought in April 2006). Over the past month or so, I've been having frequent instances of Caps Lock/mouse problems. When Caps Lock is on, the type is in lower-case, and when Caps is off, the type is upper-cased. Regardless of the case or SHIFT being held down, the top row of numbers types only the symbols.

My mouse is acting strange as well - left-clicking doesn't work well (one click will select everything in a folder/page/document). The mouse wheel isn't scrolling up or down, but acts as back/forward in a browser.

These happen both at the same time and suddenly, unexpectedly, and regardless of what I'm doing: e-mail, web browsing, chatting, etc.

Restarting the PC fixes it, but it usually reverts back to this problem in a matter of time; this problem happens practically daily. I've already tried the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, then to "Uninstall" the "Quick Launch Buttons," then restarted comp... all to no avail

one of your shift buttons is stuck down or broke that's why caps lock does the opposite and why the top numbers are giving you symbols instead of numbers

No way i had this SAME Problem but i fixed it already

its something in the registry that got changed ,moved or altered with

and it can be spyware also

updating your keyboard WONT work either sometimes some icons on my touch pad would indicate caps lock on and then i type numbers instead of letters

just fix your registry with reg cure and check for spyware then you will fix that Weird keyboard problem caps lock is on when it should be off or num lock they are inverted so i know what you mean

just download reg cure

its better to buy it cuz the free trial wont work on all the problems or just torrent it for free

the undertaking you're having is surely in the keyboard driving force. I had an identical factor ensue to mine, and that i basically offered it 6 days in the past. the driving force for the keyboard is misguided. So, it may desire to be deleted and reinstalled. I contacted HP actual-time Chat tech help and that's what they informed me to do. It surely worked. Rinstalling Keyboard: a million. Restart the gadget and press F8 in the time of Startup to get entry to the Startup menu. forget approximately any blunders messages that ensue. 2. elect risk-free Mode from the Startup menu and press enter. 3. click start up, administration Panel, overall performance and upkeep, and then gadget icon. 4. This opens the gadget residences window. 5. elect Hardware tab and click gadget supervisor. 6. click the plus (+) sign next to Keyboard to record the keyboard drivers. 7. elect one driving force and click get rid of. on the warning instantaneous, click ok. 8. Repeat this technique till there is not any itemizing for keyboard. 9. close all homestead windows and restart the laptop. when you have restarted, homestead windows will immediately discover and reinstall the drivers. Then, you would be led to to restart returned. when you do this, it would be nice. sturdy success!

Never heard of that problem... Personally, I'd return it for replacement, and if the forst poster's reply and directions don't work, you may have to.

Mind, since the computer is two years old... Unless you bought a 3 year warranty, you might have to pony-up for a repair bill, or replace it if it becomes bad enough.

Good Luck!
