I have a Gateway laptop, only about two years old, it was fine a couple of days ago and when I tried to start it last night, while it was plugged into a power source it would start running the fan and the power button would light up but only lasted seven seconds before everything shut off again, this repeated over and over with about three seconds in between. I thought maybe the battery he just needed to charge so I let it do so overnight but today I'm having the same issue. I have searched several forums looking for an answer to this but couldn't find anything that it worked

I might try removing the battery and trying again.

It does sound like a power problem. Are you seeing any message from the bios? If so, are you able to get into the bios setup? Usually you press the key while the computer is just starting to boot. Sometimes it's [F1] or [Esc].

If none of that works, ... hmmm, I've got nothing else.

turn on and go into bios... I don't know what key you have to press.. but try F1, or F2 or the DEL key.

let it sit on the bios screen... or see if you can find the volt/temp part of the bios..

anyway.. see if it shuts off while in the bios screen... if so.. hardware /overheating problem..

you can also try to set the bios to default settings... could also be a bad bios battery
