how do we solve the problem of " HDD not detected " during the installation of linux (FC 5) on CQ40-144 TU ?

in the new laptop series, the HDD comes locked... so as it remains only vista enabled.... how do we remove it... actually i need xp + linux.... installation of xp goes well.... but during linux ( FC 5) it says no HDD detected..... how do we solve this problem... tried it on CQ40-144TU.

That is an old version of Fedora, the kernel may not have support for the HDD controller, especially if that is a new laptop. The linux kernel is constantly being updated for new controller chips. FC 5 has kernel version 2.6.15 and FC 9 has Linux kernel 2.6.25 that is about two years newer.

I contacted HP customer care and i was told that you can have only windows Vista on this machine.



If i try installing windows XP i get a blue screen of death. Today i'll be trying ubuntu 8.04, will update the progress

may be its working



1. save ur data on another hdd



2. do partition from diskman or xp bootable



all partition will remove & make all partition new & then try may be its working bcz threw these steps my xp+linux is working
