Question:
Is keeping my laptop on and (mostly) plugged in the the charger going to mess my battery, or charger up?

I don't know if it matters what type of laptop i have but, its a Quanta KN1-PM 15.5" widescreen. Pretty good. Holds a pretty decent charge. But what I'm trying to hint around to is, well I keep my laptop on for about 8 or 9 hours a day. Some of the time it is plugged in to the charger and sometimes it ain't. But this is the main part. I get on and off of it constantly so I have the power settings set to when ever I just close the lid it does nothing (well, the screen does shut off ha ha). I think it is way better like that so I can just open it up and be on Myspace. So keeping it on that long mostly every day and most of the time plugged into the charger wont hurt anything will it? I mean come on, my desktop stays on all day all week 24/7 never ever ever gets turned off and its perfect. But someone just let me know if keeping my laptop on 8 or 9 hours a day (even when the lid is closed it's on) is a good thing, bad thing, or doesn't matter. Becuase I hate having boot it up since its boot up time is slooooowwww.hahaha
Thanks!

My laptop is regulated to the role of desktop. It's pretty much chained to the desk with hard drives, ipods, and other peripherals connected to its USB ports. I keep on 24/7. It still works. The only time the battery kicks in is when the power goes out or if I actually use it as a portable computer.

I stopped leaving the lid closed while it's on as the heat may damage the LCD. I set Windows to automatically power off the LCD within 3 minutes.

When it's on AC, the battery is not touched at all. As with all batteries, it will degrade over time regardless of what you do. 5 years ago, it was at 4 hours. Now I barely get 2 hours. That's normal.

Once a year I recalibrate the battery in the bios. All it does is drain it to 0% and recharges to get an accurate count.

well maybe it does have to do with your laptop. my laptop was always plugged in and always on and now my laptop can barely hold a charge without it being plugged in. it doesn't affect any other aspect of the computer, the quality is sitll great. i just can't have it unplugged for more than a couple of hours.

no but around twice a month unplug the ac,let the battery run all the way down, then hook the ac up and let it charge back up,that helpsthe battery adjust itself, been doing that 5 years and still have agood battery in my laptop, will still take around 2.5 to run all the way down
