Question:
Is it worth it for me to get a Macbook Pro?

I'm planning to buy an apple computer soon, and I was wondering if the Macbook Pro would be worth the extra money. Since i'm only 13, i won't be doing high impact things or however you say that, i would mainly be using it for surfing the internet, watching DVD's, taking pictures and videos, skyping, and writing papers for school and stuff. The only gaming i'd be doing is playing the Sims :) haha. Right now the only reason I would get the Macbook Pro is because it's cooler (lol), it has a backlit keyboard, and an SD card slot because I lost the cable for my camera, and i think these are stupid reasons :P I need a new camera anyway or i could just buy another cable, so what do you think? Has anyone owned a Macbook and a Macbook Pro? Which do you prefer? Also my dad is paying $1200, and i have to pay the rest.

For you, it would not be worth the money. A basic Macbook would do the trick. And, to save money, you can check Craigslist or buy one from the online Apple store that has been refurbished. You won't get the free iPod, but you will save about $150, which you could use for the new camera.

Any macbook is definitely worth it.

Here are the specs and hardware for both Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Macbook:

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo.

2 GB RAM.

250GB Hard drive.

Nvidia 320M Graphics card.

Ethernet Port.

Mini Display Port.

2 USB Ports.

Audio In and Out.

Macbook Pro:

2.66 GHz.

4 GB RAM.

320 GB Hard drive.

Nvidia 320M Graphics card.

Ethernet Port.

Firewire 800 Port.

Mini display port.

2 USB ports.

SD Card slot.

Audio In and Out.

Backlit Keyboard.

If you are going to use your mac for web browsing, picture and photo editing and light gaming you might benefit from the slightly faster 2.66 GHz processor on the Macbook Pro. Transferring video can be done with both an SD card or a firewire cable which are both compatible only with the macbook pro.

I have the 2.66 GHz macbook pro and I love it, definitely worth paying $300 of your own money to get it.

The MacBook Pro also has a Firewire port & the MacBook doesn't so if you need the Firewire port, then get the Pro. If not, then get either. You might be able to swing a free iPod Touch and printer also, check the Apple education store on-line. I have a MacBook, it's over 3 years old. I have had no problems with it other than needing to replace the battery.

If you are going to edit videos then sure the video editing software on the mac is a little bit better then the one on PC. But if your going to do basic video editing then honestly don't waste the money. I have a lot of experience with computers and Macs are very overpriced. They come with nice stuff but for the price it isn't worth it. If your into editing well done films and professional photos then I would say go for it. But PC is much cheaper and will give you the same thing. Also if you are going to buy a mac book pro get the cheapest one ($1200). You won't notice a difference if you buy anything beyond that one.
