Hi, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've been using a Dell Latitute D600 since 2004 and I think it's time for an upgrade. Besides basic regular typing and web surfing, I'd like to be able to play modern video games (which I currently cannot), and I'd also like the computer to have a CD/DVD drive. I'd also like to keep the price as low as possible, and power consumption as low as I can. Don't need a huge widescreen either. My current D600 has a 65 watt power supply, which is not bad. Any advice? I know netbooks have super low current draw and are very cheap but no DVD and cannot play games, keyboards too small.

Well if you specified a price range it would be easier to narrow it down to a laptop suitable to your desires/expectations because there are a plethora of laptops on the market. I am assuming you are budgeting and the price range should not exceed $700.00. I shall conduct research to find a laptop that can handle your expectations smoothly. Here is a laptop I found: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-dm4-1160us-14-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00400OSA4/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1300036469&sr=1-4

$700.00, 4GB RAM should suffice for running applications simultaneously without delays, 500GB hard drive is plentiful to store all of your files, games, music, videos, documents and programs. In addition to having ample space the hard drive specialty is it's efficiency 7200 RPMS unleashed! Furthermore this computer is equipped with a stupendous processor and that is the Intel Core I5 specifically designed to stream moderately demanding to high demanding applications without hindering. As well as turbo boost technology to enhance the speed during daily computing. This laptop is extremely light increasing your mobility by a margin. Also the battery life is quite reliable despite having robust components 6.25 hours depending on the applications operating. The computer also has a decent graphics card to achieve exceptional performance when you wish to stream contemporary games. An additional component of this computer is the optical drive to burn dvds. Overall I recommend using this laptop for moderately demanding to high demanding applications, music, video, multimedia and any other desires/expectations you wish to fulfill. All the best :)

no longer too particular on the subject of the maximum recent laptop CPUs yet steer away from all of the Intels different than Core2. look for the laptop equivilant of Athlon64 (turion, i think of), those run with little ability, low speed yet reliable overall performance.

To start off, if you want to play games you'll need a seperate graphic card instead of onboard graphics (onboard graphics are only useful for watching videos and such). Also by modern video games, do you mean like Call of duty black ops or stuff like combat arms or maplestory? Because if you want to be able to play COD black ops then you'll need a powerful laptop around 1,000. such as this one. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=ENVY&series_name=ENVY14_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/ENVY/ENVY14_series

If its stuff like combat arms or maplestory, im assuming, this HP would do. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto.do# or the Dell http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dndodq1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&model_id=xps-l502x (this one can do much more if you customize it)

This is as cheap as you can get if you want to do more than regular basic stuff.
