New computer equipment comes out all the time. The Macbook Pro is due for a hardware update soon. However before you even look at hardware your first question you need to be asking yourself is what kind of software are you planning to use on that spanking new computer? My best advice is to to look at the kinds of programs you want to run, then check out what hardware is required to run that sofware (mac or PC). That will then determine the minimim specs you need. You never know, if all you need is a more powerful netbook then perhaps you should be looking at a Macbook Air.
Aside from performance specs, here are some reasons for choosing mac over PC:
* slimmer, stronger more durable industrial design that will last you for many more years than anything else out there.
* Tightly integrated operating system and hardware.
* inherently more secure (most Mac users haven't needed antivirus in over a decade).
* extremely fine attention to detail in everything you do and use with their machines.
* applecare extended warranty gives world wide coverage with laptops.
* you can do windows too (PCs can't legally do OS X), as well as other operating systems.
* Students and Educators can get a discount (and sometimes a free iPod touch).
* Apple isn't going out of business anytime soon (unlike the competition), so they will be there when you need them.
* magsafe power cord means if you kick the power cable you wont take your laptop down with it.
* ipods, iphones, ipads, itunes, safari and everything else Apple has a hand in works better and faster with a Mac than PC (but you know that already right?)
* all mac laptop screens are HD and higher.
* no spamware, adware, spyware or vapourware on a mac. The bundled apps are best of class and in some cases (garageband) have no equivalent on a PC.
* you can do a lot more with a mac straight out of the box before buying/adding any other software.
* the new Mac App store means that just about everything made for the Mac is one click away.
* if its USB based often the mac can use it, even if it doesn't explicitly say so on the packaging.
