I jst got a new laptop...wireless like my other laptop. I am unable to connect the new laptop to the wireless router which is a Linksys. It asks for a security code or passphrase. My encryption key will not work. I was told by a Linskys advisor I called that I needed to pay them for their services for this information, otherwise i would not be able to connect. My new laptop is a Dell Studio. Any ideas? I've looked over my network settings and cannot find the infomation I need to connect my new laptop.

First the computer could be connecting to a pair different community at a neighbor's abode. be certain you notice your router's call and which you have properly enter the router's SSID and protection key. in case you have no longer achieved that, click on the wifi icon, click teach all Networks, then Setup instant community, then stick to that to pass into the SSID and protection key. that should do it. nevertheless no bypass? Are you fairly close adequate to the router to get a good connection? walk over to the router and take a look into to connect.

Some older routers do not work well with Windows 7.

Troubleshoot network connection problems: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-network-connection-problems

To connect turn on wireless, open network connections, click view all available wireless networks, click yours, enter password if a secured network, click connect.

Ask the person that set up the router for the password if you do not know it.

press and hold the reset button in on the router for 5secs and release, wait for it to load again, it will remove the password

try going to your other computer that you can connect to the wireless and check your password by going into the web interface.

try that password

make sure the wifi is on if you are using a mac if not get closer to the acces point and try again.

if that doesn't work try turning the modem off and on again.

You could download a cracking program and hack your password.
