Many stupid answers here actually.

How many cores there are in a processor is only one factor that determines how fast it could work. A processor can have 8 cores and still give worse performance in your video editing program than a dual core.

You can't compare processors by looking at clock frequency either. The clock frequency for processors have not really increased the past years, so even with the same number of cores and same clock frequency one processor can be significantly more effective than another.

So to answer your question, don't look at the number of cores, compare processors based on benchmarks instead. And even then remember that not all programs take full advantage of all cores so in some cases where a multi core processor is theoretically faster than another you might not be able to use all cores simultaneously and then another processor with less cores could perform better. However when encoding video all cores can mostly be utilized.

So back in the day there were single core computers. These processors could only do one thing at a time. Meaning processes had to take turns. When they take turns they save their pre thoughts in the system cache. If your cache is filled up your computer slows down. Now in modern day processors there are cores. For each 1 core that is one micro processor in your big single processor. For every one core that is 1 thing you can do at a time. If you have 2 cores you can have two processes constantly using cpu usage at the same time. Now all this comes at a speed. So say for every .1ghz you can do one process per second. So if you have a 1ghz processor you can 10 processes every second. If you have a two core processor that is 20 processes per second. Each processes may have longer thoughts then others so there is no "10 process per 1ghz". That was an example.

So overall there is no dual core is better then quad core or vise versa. It is what speed of the processor at how many cores. 5ghz dual core is better then 1ghz quad core. or 4ghz quad core is better then 4ghz dual core.

Quad Core is much better than the dual core. Because of dual core have 2 core & Quad Core Have 4 core.

Yes. More cores should make the processing smoother.
