You should get a MacBook or MacBook Pro; it will last you for years if you take care of it, unlike a Windows PC. There are no viruses for Mac OS X and never have been, so you won't need antivirus software; it can't protect you against something that doesn't exist.

The Mac comes with everything you need to get started doing what you want to do, including the iLife suite of programs (http://apple.com/ilife), and you can also purchase the iWork suite for $79 if you need word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs (http://apple.com/iwork). Mac OS X is the most stable and technologically advanced OS on the market; so good that Microsoft likes to steal ideas and features from it to put into Windows, but without success.

The cheapest MacBook starts at $999; you can get a student discount for your purchase at the online Apple Store for Education (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/findyourschool?mco=OTY2ODQzMg) if you can prove you're a currently enrolled student; otherwise you don't get any discount. In that case, you should consider getting a refurbished MacBook from Apple here: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=MTY0MjUwOTE

These have the same 1 year warranty as all other Macs, but for less money because they were returned by customers for some reason. Stock changes frequently (daily) so if you see what you want, grab it then, because it will be gone soon.

Don't get caught up in the false promises of specifications between Mac and Windows machines, since they mean nothing in the abstract. Performance has little to do with processor speed, and far more with the efficiency of the operating system, and the efficiency of the code in the applications you're running.

Contrary to claims made by Windows PC fanboys, Apple does not use the same components as crappy PC makers. Apple designs their own systems, including the motherboard, for each Mac model, and they source their components carefully, which is why a Mac has far fewer breakdowns or failures than a Windows PC.

If you go with a Windows PC laptop, you invite and have to deal with more than 150,000 known viruses, with more appearing each day; a PC loaded with adware/crapware/trialware that is of no use to you, low quality components in the hardware, and an operating system riddled with many, many bugs that Microsoft has known about for years, yet done nothing to fix. Do you want to spend your time dealing with all those issues?

Macs retain their resale value far longer than a Windows PC, and Apple has the highest rated support of any computer manufacturer, for the past 3 consecutive years. No PC maker even came close to their ranking.

You can read reviews of the latest models of each here: http://www.macworld.com/products/mac.html

It is good but not great. For the price you don't as much and although many people will tell you they are higher quality there is not much that makes them better and you pay a premium for the good looks. OS X is fine but nothing special if you ask me. Yes it comes with iLife and a flashy looking interface but that doesn't make it better. You can get many cool programs for the PC and there is a lot more third party content as well. Yes, macs can get viruses and apple has even recently told its users to get an antivirus. Windows 7 is stable and has many cool features. I have not had one crash in 8 months of use. I would suggest and HP, Dell or Sony. You can compare all the specs online and if you want the look of a Mac the HP Envy is very close

Apple says the battery on a new MacBook will last 7 hours, expect 5. It is supposed to be good for 5 or more years or 1000 cycles. There hasn't been a MacOS X virus released in 4 years. There is some malware but you have to be duped or greedy because it's in fake or illegal software downloads and you have to install it (despite warnings from Snow Leopard) with your admin password. I recommend it because I have had a MacBook for 3 almost 4 years. Never had a software/virus/malware problem, I did recently have to replace the battery. That's it.

You will get various answers to this question. Some people will praise the Mac, others will slag it off. I will try to give you an unbiased answer, simple and clear hopefully. Lets start at the basics, the hardware. A Mac is a good looking piece of equipment, stylish and very sturdy. On the inside the hardware is somewhat dated, compared to normal computers. This is because there are a lot of different brands who build computers and a lot of people like you and me who build their own computer, compared to Apple who is on its own when it comes to building Macs and who follow a release cycle. The MacBook Pro for example is expected to be renewed early this year still. The MacBook has been renewed quite recently still. Dated hardware sounds negative and many people will use this against the Mac, but it is not a negative thing. Apple equips its Macs with good hardware everytime a Mac gets renewed. Yes, it will be dated after a year, but people who state this is a negative point compare the hardware to a computer running Microsoft Windows. You cannot compare a Mac to a normal computer, as a Mac runs on Mac OS X, a completely different operating system than Microsoft Windows. Mac OS X uses hardware very efficiently, better than Microsoft Windows does. This is because Apple create the hardware, the Mac itself, and the operating system, Mac OS X. Microsoft creates Windows, but they do not create the computers themselves. Mac OS X does not require any third party drivers by default because of this, whereas Microsoft Windows depends on third party drivers for most hardware. This makes Mac OS X more stable in general than Microsoft Windows. Now that we are on about Mac OS X, it is the easiest operating system around. Downside is that it is not compatible with Microsoft Windows and the other way around, so any software which you use on Microsoft Windows will not work on a Mac and the other way around. This is something that many people do not realise. If you have software which only runs on Microsoft Windows and you really need this software, you cannot use a different operating system. You can always install Microsoft Windows next to Mac OS X on a Mac using Boot Camp, which comes with Mac OS X, but this makes you loose the advantages of Mac OS X, such as the good hardware integration, no need for third party drivers and also the "protection" against viruses. Mac OS X is based on UNIX, an operating system for which there are hardly any viruses out there on the internet. You are therefore by default more safe with a Mac than that you are with a normal computer. For the advantages of a Mac you do pay a price however, as Macs are not very cheap. As for the battery, you can find that on the Apple website easily. I personally recommend Macs to those people who want something which looks good, which works as easy as possible, stable and more secure than a normal computer, but who do not require typical Microsoft Windows software.

The battery is best in the business and there are few to none viruses. Its a really good computer and I would highly reccomend it if you have the money. That thing will last you a while. The only bad side is that it costs a lot

There is only one Mac virus, and all it can do is send a chat message to your buddy list. In other words, Macs are very secure. The Macbook battery lasts up to 7 hours.

I recommend the Macbook (I have the latest one) because it's fast, portable, comfortable, and stylish. It works just how it should and it's very fun to use.
