My ex-girlfriend took my laptop and locked it and I can't get in. Is there a way I can get in, I tried to in by pressing Access IBM but to get in I also need the password. So what can I do? She left and I can not get a hold of her. Its a IBM Thinkpad T42

It sounds like she set a 'supervisor' or HDD password (not a Windows password- windows passwords are easily unlocked) - this is impossible to bypass

You'll have to try to guess the password or ask her.

If it's a windows password (you see your username and the normal password box at login) then use a program like ERD commander, or similar program to reset the pwd. Do a google search for password unblocking/resetting software.

Oooo...

If she set an Administrator password on your computer, there ARE tools that are available to bypass the password encryption, but use of same is illegal, as the programs themselves are classified as hacker's tools, and unless you have a legitimate reason for having them on your computer, is illegal.

Incidentally, anyone giving you workable instructions on how to get around said lock-out in an open forum like this is commintting an illegal act and can be charged.

So, unless you want to beg her to provide you with the password, or try the multiple millions of passwords possible over the next couple of months...

That having been said, if you can prove ownership, IBM/Lenovo can help you (although you will likely be without the laptop for a few weeks).

IBM Thinkpad laptops are not locked. If you are trying to login without a password on a protected account; you are out of luck.

What do you mean "locked it"?

Did she shackle and padlock it? Get some bolt cutters.

Did she change the BIOS password? you're screwed.

Did she change the Windows password? see above me.
