Question:
Can I play this game on my laptop?
2008-01-24 23:29:50 UTC
I just got my dad's IBM laptop fixed. It now has 1 GB. I asked the guy who fixed the laptop if he could add a video/graphics card and he said you can't add video cards to notebooks. Why? And the game I want to buy is Zoo tycoon 2, and perhaps one of its expansions.

System Requirements:
Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP
Multimedia PC with a 733 MHz processor
256 MB RAM
900 MB of available hard disk space
Quad-speed or higher CD-ROM drive
16 MB 3D DirectX9.0 or later
Internet access required for optional downloadable content

And my brother wants to play world of warcraft. Personally I don't think we can play without a graphics card :(

that is a rather old laptop you got there and i am definitely sure world of warcraft will not work and if it somehow does it will be so ugly you wouldnt play it anyways.

Zoo tycoon is pretty old itself so it might work but that laptop is awfully old so it might not even run really well.

Yes, generally you cant upgrade v-card on laptops.

I don't think you would be very happy playing it on your laptop very long! Once you get playing it, it will run slower and slower as you build the zoo! and it will also end up freezing up your laptop! Many games today, need way more bigger graphics and memory!!! To play the games at best speeds etc, with no huge problems!!! I own over 16 tycoon games and have beat them all!!! I am very good at them kind of games, I also played all the sims games until there were really no more challenges for me!!!

I completely built all the houses possible to build in the games and got so bored I started building the houses as big as the whole yards, and double heights and 2 adults and 6 kids in every house!!! and swimming pools in the houses, I got all the parents top paying jobs after raising the kids up to be able to go to school etc. and everything! And the houses were loaded with eveything that can be bought and I bought all the high buck stuff!!! And each house had the range of 2 to 8 billion dollars in there bank accounts, I got so good at, it started to bore me, so I went to tycoon games and I haven't found one yet I can't beat!!! I've made billions of dollars worth of airports on airport tycoon, And I'm always #1 on the airport ranks when I'm done with building a great airport, which I still enjoy playing! And casino tycoon to me was the easiest to win and play!!! I would have to say Donald Trump's Real estate tycoon was about the hardest one to beat for me, it took me 5 hours!!! Where all the others were quite a bit easier!!! Tycoon games are pretty big games when it comes to using up all your memory MB RAM! I have a 1024 MB Ram Memory! And a 1 GB hardrive, But I am Buying a much bigger system in the spring to keep up with all the stuff I do on the Internet and all the games I have, so I'm going to buy a new tower with 2 GB Ram memory and a 300 GB Hard drive and I'm also going to buy a 1 T external hard drive to store all the stuff I have, instead of piling it all onto my main computer hard drive!!! So unless you can afford a better and more powerful computer, you won't be able to play tycoons very long, before your laptop will come to a stand still or freeze up on you!

I would say even before you could get your whole zoo built, your lab top will start acting up pretty fast!!! It may work a lot better if you could afford to upgrade your laptop to at least a 2 GB memory Ram!!! Because the 1 GB hard drive would still be fine!!! as long as you didn't store ton's of stuff onto your laptop hard drive!

You are correct. If your notebook does not have any type of graphics card, you won't be able to play these games.

If you want to play games like World of Warcraft and Zoo Tycoon, you will need to purchase a computer that has at least an integrated graphics card with 32mb of memory. Most new laptops should come with one of these. Just ask at the store.

If you want a PC that can play the latest games, you should buy one with a dedicated graphics card with at least 256mb of memory.

Good Luck.

You wont have any problems as long as your laptop satisfies the minimum requirements of the game. A PC is a PC no matter how it is packed. If a particular game involves too much use of the mouse (most first person shooters, role playing games and strategy games) the touchpad found on most laptops can be uncomfortable. I would suggest you invest in a usb mouse if this is the case

Yet for some reason, the game's performance wasn't all that great even on an above-average machine with a 2.4GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, and a GeForce Ti4600 graphics card, lagging constantly when we scrolled the screen. The game runs considerably better on computers that far exceed the minimum requirements, though.... So it looks like that cpu will not play it to good... Also what is the specs for you ibm what model is it.. Ibm t60's are good laptops.. I have seen call of duty 4 play good on them units

If your laptop is a few years old, you'd be ok to use Zoo Tycoon on it. You would probably have to make the graphic settings low on the game. Otherwise it will run very slow. WoW would depend on how old the laptop is, if its not a year or two old, then forget using WoW on it.

Zoo tycoon should work. WOW will not. You may have to upgrade windows direct X for zoo tycoon, but it should do that for you if needed during the install.

I have a desktop computer and I have never heard such things about a laptop needing a graphics card to play A computer game? I oened a laptop a few years back!

It will have a graphics chip built into the motherboard of the laptop, so yes you will be able to play it

No you cant put graphics cards in laptops unless they are MXM, which most aren't because of the space requirements

possibly u could play it but the specs are pretty low for gaming so it may be more trouble than its worth ....

the only real test is too actually play the game and find out ,i know this isnt perfect but the specs on the game are the minimum required to load the game not play it enjoyably (if that makes sence)

think the ram is pretty low too so its gonna struggle even if it does manag to load

from the specs you give zoo tycoon should not be any problem, but world of warcraft probably will not, enjoy your laptop
