Well, lappys have a limited area to transfer and emit heat. It is inherent to the technology. You do know how your laptop exhausts it's heat, right? For example, my lappy pulls air in thru the back left part of the bottom of it. If I have it squarely in my lap, I block the intake vents and my temps shoot up 15C. Heat is exhausted out the back left just under the screen hinge. If I have my lappy too close to something behind it, my temps rise. Moral of the story is ventilation and space. Also, how old is the 'puter in qwestion? If it is older then 6-8 months, the fan has probably pulled in and caked against the heatsink (decreasing it's effectiveness) a ton of dust, lint, hair, skin, dander, dandruff, and a whole host of other thermally insulating materials that could be causing your troubles. One last thought. Do you have a lot of background stuff going on while playing? More data=more heat. Try closing anything down, not necessary to WOW. And along those lines, make sure you don't have a program hanging. I've seen my 'puter shoot up to over 80C 'cause a thread asked for 100% system resources for an extended period of time due to a bug or improper execution. Hope that helps or at least gives you new ideas. L8r, ave

According to the F.A.Q file that comes with the SMCFanControl download:

"To uninstall it, just drag it into the trash. smcFanControl installs no permanent background processes or daemons.

All changes smcFanControl does to the fan controlling get lost after you shutdown your computer (power off, not restart) or enter standby mode (as far as you don't have smcFanControl running) . Minimum fan speed then falls back to the system defaults values."

A preference file in OS X cannot execute. It is only a code to indicate how an executable file will respond. Once the executable file (contained in the app bundle) is removed, the preference file is nothing more than a text file. You can search for "smcfancontrol" or "de.eidac" to try to find the preference file, but I think it isn't related to the fan speed.

Your computer may need a firmware update. See the link below.
