How do you check this on the laptop? Can you please recommend the best website where you can get lots of tutorials for troubleshooting computers?

I have a desktop with a Belkin Wireless G router. My friend wants to connect to the internet with his IBM Think Pad. What I did was open the control panel on his laptop and searched for wireless networks. I selected the connection for my Belkin Wireless G router and typed the password. The connection was enabled but when I opened IE, nothing would appear.

Did I do something wrong?? Please help. Thanks!

The question is not whether the laptop can connect to ANY wireless connection, but whether the IBM Think Pad could connect to THAT type of connection. There are issues such as type-B or type-G to consider. The router and the Think Pad have to agree on which kind of protocol they want to use, such as PPPoE or something else. The Think Pad also has to be configured for the network addressing style expected by the router. (To DHCP or not to DHCP,....THAT is the question.)

Just searching for the network connection only handled one layer of the ISO seven-layer protocol model. The bottom one. You've got a few more to go before they will talk.

First off "enable" does not mean you are connected. Each computer is slightly different. If you do not have the manual then you can go to the manufacturers websit. There is a websit called OwnerIQ that helps you find manuals for all types of products, here is the web address: http://owneriq.net/owneriqnetwork.html

Hmm... the place to start up? Throw a cable on there first and see in case you could connect under pressure. examine the firewall on his computer. examine the config displays on the prompt router to make certain in case you have adequate attainable IP addresses, if not, upload greater. examine to make certain whilst you're filtering by applying MAC handle, and upload his by applying going to "Run", style cmd, then ipconfig/all to discover the MAC of the computer prompt. examine the 'interior sight community' show screen to make certain if the community is poaching off your router, if so, delete them out. stable success! i'm on Yahoo Messenger as 'grabsack' for a pair greater hours in case you decide on greater help.

If you were able to detect and connect to your belkin with his laptop then the laptop is capable. There is some other problem.

you have to properly configure your laptop on your local ISP e.g smartbro, globelines, bayantel, mydsl etc. before you can get a wireless internet..
