Okay. So I know that all laptops are known for the battery running really really hot. I am used to the bottom?

of my laptop being so hot that it almost burns my lap. As a matter of fact, when I asked this question a few weeks ago, I learned that you were never supposed to put a lap top on a lap or couch or bed, or anything other than a hard flat surface. So I followed the y/a advice I was given, and I bought a lap desk.

Well, the last couple of days, I have noticed that after several hours of my lap top being on (I often leave it plugged in and charging but still on because I download a lot of things that take hours to download), it is no longer just the bottom of my laptop that is burning hot.

Now the front of my laptop is burning up hot. Even the electronic built in mouse pad is hot, and to the left of that mousepad is so hot it is almost scorching!

What does this mean? I have NO CLUE how often a person is supposed to get a new "battery" for their lap top. I do not know how much this costs, and if even getting a new battery for my laptop (which by the way is only 7 months old) will even fix the problem any way!

Does anyone have any cue what is causing this problem?

Your laptop is just unable to dissipate heat from the components inside it fast enough (GPU,CPU,HD). Just buy a good notebook cooler or turn it off and allow it to cool every once in awhile. If a component inside your laptop exceeds it's thermal threshold or maintains temperatures near that threshold for long periods of time. It degrades the life span of the notebook or just burn it out.

It is not the battery thats causing the problem because the battery is located in the back portion of the laptop near the monitor. Other components like the cpu and the hard drive also makes it hot. Check the fan, put your hand over the exhaust, you should feel hot air coming out if the fan is ok, You may also need to buy a laptop cooling pad to cool your laptop. It really helps to bring down the temperature... Lastly, you can also remove the battery and run it only on ac power.

This should not be happening. The battery is located at the bottom of your laptop. Your laptop must still be under warranty. All new laptops have at least one year's warranty on them. I have a laptop with a safety recall on it because of this very problem. Take it back and explain what is happening. It sounds like a serious safety hazard to me!

Mine does that too sometimes... like it's *burning* my wrists where they set on the front part as I type... don't know why... I rarely use the battery, tho, and just run an extension cord to the plug from where I usually sit. Keeps it cooler than running the battery all the time...

It could just be that the harder surface isn't absorbing heat as quickly and so the base part of the laptop is getting warmer...?
