The laptop has some particular programs associated with the laptop , like a program for the battery status, and other stuff as well. I have a Windows XP Pro CD (it did not come with the laptop).

How do I get these particular program features back once I reformat the hard drive with the Win XP CD?

Any help of any kind would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean like the embedde program in the task bar for the battery? that will all already be on the windows xp disc, other wise if its a thrid party program your going to have to get your serial number from the product if its paid, and re download it after you format, make sure you got your driver cd!

Usually you can go to the manufacturer's website (IBM in this case) and type in your laptop model number or serial number and they'll have all the programs that came with the laptop available for you to download.

Probably. Back then they we both probably PATA drives. However, the hardware is going to be totally different between the systems. Do not expect it to boot. If you plan on reloading the OS and rebuilding the software from scratch, then that is O.K. If you want it to just boot and look like the Gateway system did then it is not going to work.
