If you are wanting a gaming laptop for a $1k price then you should go with the Lenovo Y510P. This laptop isn't purely for gaming but the dual nvidia gpus obviously put it in the gaming category. You won't have all the bells, whistles, and capability of something like an Alienware 18 but it fits your budget.

My favorite is the Alienware 18. With an Intel Core i7 4900MQ processor, a speed of 2.8 GHz, 32 GB of memory/storage, and a Windows 7 platform, it is probably one of the best gaming laptops out there. It's HELLA expensive, though; at cheapest, $4499! You might wanna save up or buy a different brand, but you can ask anyone: Alienware is the best gaming laptop brand.

Crossfire the APU's built in GPU with the 2nd ATI GPU, aka combined GPU power to play games.

All the specs you are looking for and it comes with a 1920X1080 resolution screen.

DVD RW/CD-RW

The processor is 4 cores 2.5 GHZ, pretty solid performance, Im using a 2.1GHZ A8 and for the past year its eaten everything processor related without problem.

As for companies, there are several you should avoid, Dell and Alienware, they do not uphold their warranty in many cases, BBB takes bribes and their tech support/RMA is basically mailmen, they force you to use only their drivers, have common battery reflated problems. Also few certain models of laptops from other companies, you just need to google the make model and see what Owners lounges are talking about.

Generally the Mid range laptops from HP are pretty sought after.

ASUS/MSI/SAGER are considered the gaming laptop manufacturers of choice, each one has some kind of advantage that's distinctive to that company.

For example, Sager is a German brand, they really don't mess around with Quality, as in its top notch.

Asus is pretty decent with cooling, prices, choice and general innovation.

MSI tends to be on the costly side, But you can expect all the bells and whistles to be included in their laptops
