I just upgraded my Compaq HP Presario 2000 Win XP laptop to Windows 7 and now I have no sound! My sound isn't working at all. What should I do? The troubleshooter doesn't fix it and I'm really frustrated!
I would greatly appreciate some help.

First, lets be clear. You didn't upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7, as Microsoft does not support an upgrade option. To upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7, you'll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a "clean" installation for that reason.
It's likely that you haven't installed the proper sound card drivers for Windows 7. You can easily check this by going into Device Manager (Start, Computer, Manage, Device Manager) & clicking on "Sound, video, & game controllers". Right-clicking on the non-working device & selecting "Update driver software" will walk you through installing the new device driver.
To update/install the device driver, you'll need to find the right driver software (check the HP/Compaq website) & download & install it. Once you've completed that, your sound should start working again.

Im gonna assume you never have had any sound while hacing Windows 7. Most likely, this is a driver issue, which I am very unexperienced.. But I can tell you about the easy way to check.. It helped for my noob friend who also is new to Windows 7. Right click on the sound icon on your window tray, and click View Volume Mixer or whatever its in your language. Then make sure all the things are turned up. Windows 7 have extra adjustments on volume.
If this arent the issue, make sure you havent accidently turned off the volume by clicking the FN button (usually a blue texted button) on while also clicking on a "Silence" button. Try find Volume On button and press it together with FN button. Last, double check that there are no wheel or something on your laptop that can turn the volume off and on.
Again, most likely a driver issue, but worth a double check :)

look on compaq hp's website if they have drivers available that will work with windows 7. If not try go to windows update and select the 'optional' tab. Usually drivers are listed there and select the one you need.

Windows 7 does not install Sound Drivers.
Go to your laptop manufacturer website and click on Support/Downloads.
Then input your laptop name and model number.
Or Click on the Start Now button and it will find your drivers.
