Hi, can anyone help? i have a packard bell laptop...not sure of the model... but recently it has been playing up, like it has been plugged in, so technically it should be working on the mains, but then it would abruptly turn off....id be shocked and restart it, then if i removed the jack (straight away) it would have an empty battery warning...

then last night it did the same thing, and then a little while later, it stopped charging completely...... i unplugged the jack and the little LED on the black box was nice and bright, when i plugged the jack back into the laptop, it went dim and flickered!!!, also the metal bit of the jack was really hot when i touched it (doesnt normally happen) and also the socket in which the jack goes into was very hot....(im not sure if one made the other hot or what..)

To sum up for those who dont want to read my essays (dont blame you):

1. My laptop abrubtly shut down

2.I turned it on again and removed the power source and it said battery was empty (even though previously it was plugged into the mains and so should be fully charged.

3. It did it again last night

4. Then it stopped charging altogether...

5. LED on little black box on charger, flickers when jack is plugged into laptop. but is bright and normal when jack is removed..

6. Jack and socket (on laptop) get very hot which doesnt normally happen.

PLEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP!!!!!

Thanks

Hi,

That sounds as if the charging unit is breaking down under load.

I would try a new charger.

Because it is not charging, it could mean that your battery has run out. This means that you will have to buy a completeley new battery and then it will charge.

check with a friends/family adapter to see if it works with their charger. If it does then problem solved, if it doesn't then that means you'll need to replace your battery.

Get a new mains adapter
