I'm looking to get a new laptop (the one i'm on now is really old and horrifically slow). However, I have no idea about what's good and what's not. Could you explain all the different aspects, ie graphics, memory etc, and explain what's good and what's bad?

Also, if you can suggest any good laptops for less than £350, that would be great :)

Get a laptop with at least a Core 2 Duo processor, 4gbs of ram, 320GB hard drive.

new laptops are (just what you wat i think..) faster. have more space, are more compatible with new technology.

if you dont know that much about computers, graphics probabbly arnt an issue.

more memory is good. there are 2 different kinds of memory:

1. RAM. the more you have the faster the computer goes. 1 gigabyte is usually pretty good. 512 megabytes can work OK but not as good

2. Hard drive memory. this is how much space you have for music, photos, videos, programs. 150 gigabytes is pretty decent for a laptop, but will fill up quick if you have alot of videos. not so much with pics and music.

those are probably the only things you need to worry about. except, if 350 EU is anywhere close to 350 USD, then you have a problem. no good laptop is going to be that cheap. id say more in the 500 USD range.

check out used computer stores aroung collage campuses. those are usually pretty cheap

its very simple - bigger numbers mean better performance.

you want at least 2 gig of ram 3 gig is better though, avoid Vista at ALL costs. and a quad core duo processor should do the job. I wouldn't worry about your graphics card as unless your looking at running high end games, you shouldnt see any difference.

PC world do some pretty good referb's (this means its been repaired and re-sold)

For a faster laptop, go for RAM and processor.

For a laptop to watch movie or to play graphic games on, get a good graphics card.

For a bigger space to store your music, videos, files, get a bigger hard drive.

Basically, more is better. But more is also more expensive.

Choose your own brands. ;) Compare.
