Windows 8 PCs come with a new security feature called secure boot. You’ll have to disable it in CMOS setup before you can install any other OS. Once that’s done, insert the Windows 7 DVD into the drive and restart your PC. It should ask if you want to boot from the optical drive. Press whatever key will do it.

It might not ask to boot from the disc. Enter the CMOS setup again and make sure the optical drive is setup as the 1st boot device. You will want to download the Windows 7 drivers for your computer before you begin. Save them to a USB flash drive or burn them to disc. After Windows is installed, install the drivers from your disc, then run Windows Update and download everything it suggests.

I don’t recommend installing 7 over 8. 8 is faster to start, has a number of security improvements, and will have support from Microsoft longer than 7. On top of that, you can make Windows 8 work just like Windows 7 which will save you the hassle of actually installing 7.

Install Classic Shell.

It gives Windows 8 a start button and start menu. You’ll practically thing you were running Windows 7 after you disable the hot corners and enable boot to desktop. Oh, and make sure to disable gestures in your touchpad/trackpad settings.

Microsoft will be restoring the start menu for Windows 8 in August so you won’t need hacks like Classic Shell after then.

Hi, all you have to do is insert the disc into your computer and then restart it. You should then boot from the disc drive rather than the hard drive. I'm not sure what button to press when the computer starts up to boot from disc on a Dell, but once you have booted from disc, it will automatically go through the installation for you. It will come up with a black screen at first and a white bar along the bottom that says Windows is Loading Files. Wait until that is complete, then you will get a graphical user interface - just follow the instructions through. Be careful at the stage where you select where to install it. You may or may not want to over write your Windows 8 - if you want to uninstall Windows 8 and put 7 on, select the Windows 8 drive and click Format. Then you can select that drive to install Windows 7. If not, you may see a list of available places where you can install it e.g. another hdd, a different partition on your laptops hdd etc. Be careful aswell, as reinstalling the OS you will loose alll of your data, pictures, etc.

Hi there!

If you'll be installing Windows 7 coming from Windows 8, and since you're concerned about the drivers, what I suggest that you do first is back-up the WINDOWS folder of your Windows 8 (to an external drive) which can be found in C:\Windows. It's basically the System32 folder that we're most concerned about, since it will contain the information about your drivers.

Once Windows 7 is installed, you can load up the backed-up System32 folder, in this way the information about your driver can be loaded into Windows 7.

I'll be created an outlined steps for you after a short while on how to load these drivers using the backup.

With regards to Windows 7 installation, refer to this URL:

It contains detailed instructions on how to go about the reinstallation of Windows

Hope of this helps!

Not a good idea. you are taking a backward step.

But yes you do have to install all the drivers.

You boot off of the CD and just follow the steps.
