I ordered a notebook area-51 m15x with a french keyboard on august 16th from the website Alienware.com (french canadian version).
At this time the estimated shipping date was september 23rd after which there should be 5 days for shipping.
The money was charge on my credit card on 2 days later.
From this day my order is in "pre production planning". When I send an email to ask about the status, they are telling me they are "doing their best".
Today there are 5 days left before the estimated shipping date and the status didn't change.
I will leave Canada for quite a time on october 2nd. I start to doubt that they will be able to assemble and deliver my computer in time.
Did you already order from them? What was your experience? Do you think I should hope for good or I should cancel my order?

That is such an amazing excellent laptop. They are most likely waiting for some component to arrive so your laptop is waitng for that. Once the component arrives your laptop will be first in the queue and the entire unit will be assembled in about 10 minutes. Then it will take 1 day for burn-in testing. Then it needs to get shipped over the ocean which takes another day to reach some distibution point like Atlanta. Then it will depend on the type of shipping you selected.

In any case it's well worth waiting for. If you cancel the only alternative that might come close is the Dell XPS M1730 which is on sale right now if that helps...

You are going to have to wait. You are odering a custom item and they won't let you cancell your order. I've been in sales for over a decade and you need to pay attention to estimated delivery times and do what you need to make sure you are there to accept deliver. When you order a custom item you are ordering something that the company has to spend extra time to make and something they can not be sure they will be able to resell to another customer. You were told at the time of purchase that the expected shipping date was Sep. 23rd and you need to deal with it.

There is a lot of custom parts, and alot of things they have to order. They aren't a small company and they get a whole bunch of orders since college time started.I remember reading on the site, can expect delays upto 25 days.

Anyway its a great company, but you may have to forgive them for being late.

Their systems are well worth the wait. I'd take the gamble. You paid with a cc so you have recourse.
