My old laptop isnt receiving power from the power source because a pin was broke, but it can still work if i find a compatible laptop to charge the battery, as it is i cant find one, so i got a new laptop and got a usb case to place the old hard drive in. I have it connected to my new laptop which runs on stupid xp home, my old hdd runs on xp pro...

I know my user name and password for the old hdd, but i can not gain access to my files other than windows and program files...

is there a way to access my folders without having to go use someone elses pc or laptop that has xp pro?

that seems to be the easiest way for me to gain access when i change access options, but i want to be able to continue to use my hard drive with my current laptop and i dont want to change my operating system yet.

any ideas?

The problem with nabbing files is generally not an issue of os, but usually (and especially in this case) of how secure you made your files.

Windows XP comes with a (completely optional) feature to protect personal files, where it will "sign" your documents and such with a "signature" (in this case a hash key) in order to protect them even further.

Now, if the files are protected, the only chance there is of retrieving any of them would be to somehow log in to that hard drive (there is a recovery console for this, but that's a bit technical to use if you are not familiar with the command prompt) and move the files to a less-secure area on the hard drive (or to another hard drive) so they can be read by another os, user, application, etc.

If they are not protected, however, it should he as easy as copying them from one drive to another.

Another alternative would be finding software to retrieve the files VIA brute-force, but that's very sketchy to even consider.

If the drives are IDE, verify that the stressfulpersistent that has the pictures and data is desperate as a slavepersistent and the OSpersistent is a grasp. examine the jumpers besides as some drives are lacking those jumpers. attempt back to get admission to thispersistent. If this fails, attempt the setup back (grasp/slave) on yet another laptop. If this does not paintings, the setting up would desire to have broken the 2nd stressfulpersistent. Get a tech to objective and get well the data.

i see no issues with win xp version > home / pro

it's the built-in security feature of the win xp / win 2000

u were the administrator in earlier system / hard drive

guess u may need to boot from earlier hard drive to gain back the administrative rights

maybe by disabling present hard drive & putting in the earlier hard drive as first boot option

hacking should work too & u'r i.t. skills maybe called upon to do that

best of luck !
