I just switched my laptop and it showed the battery was 0% but I launched Encarta Student Edition 2009 while playing music using iMesh . I'm using no AC adaptor but but the laptop has working for more than 15 minutes . Should laptops be working at zero percent battery ?? Or something is wrong with my Operating System , drivers or motherboard ? I use a Compaq running Windows 7 Home Basic

take out your battery and see if it changes if it says battery not present then put it back in and see if it charges,

if this fails then there could be an issue with the laptop or the battery or the charger

if its the charger you would usually not get any life if you plugged it in without the battery

the laptop may not be sensing the batteries charge this could ether be the laptop or the battery, only way to be sure is try the same battery in another laptop or the other way round if both computers show 0% on the battery then the battery is at fault, if the battery shows charge on the other laptop but not your laptop then the laptop has an issue with detecting charge, this could be ether or both software or a hardware issue, most likely software as i have had this issue before and it turned out to be a software issue,

hope this helps

Obviously your battery isn't really at 0% - battery remaining charge is estimated by hardware and software in the computer and battery, and something must be wrong in there somewhere - but it's probably nothing serious.

Keep using the laptop until the battery dies, then leave it turned off and charge the battery up all the way again, then turn it on. That might reset everything.

The battery gage is a piece of software. Try running the laptop until the battery is depleted, then charge it back completely. That may reset the virtural gage.

Sounds like a glitch in the battery meter software. Try right clicking on it, and see if there is a way to correct the problem there.

Some times removing the battery (while computer is off) will reset things...
