I'm currently using an Acer Aspire 4310 with Intel Celeron M. how can I downgrade the system to Windows XP? The harddrive can't be detected when booting from a Windows XP CD Installer.

Check the acer site for drivers for XP for your hardware,
If you can get them all, save them to a disc. If you can't get them, you can't go back.
You need to enter your BIOS and change hard drive type from SATA to automatically detect in order for XP disc to boot.

Yes. I can see why you want to downgrade to Win XP. Your processor is far too slow to keep up with the OS's demands. As for the downgrade, sorry.......... there is no way to "downgrade to XP." XP to Vista is a one-way street. To get back to Win XP, you must install a fresh new copy and that will wipe the content of your current OS- so all those photos and music you have will be gone. As for the hard drive not detecting the CD, you have to tell the computer its self to boot from CD. To do this, when your computer starts up, open the advanced settings (by pressing one of the "F" keys- your computer will tell you but its usually F12) and go to the boot menu and tell it to Boot from CD. then press enter and type Y to save changes. Welcome to Windows XP!

If XP cant detect your harddisk, it must be a SATA drive.
In this case you need to get Sata boot drivers for XP on a floppy (read source if you dont have a floppy drive).
Look on your laptop makers website, maybe they have them.
If not, then google for your laptop's model +xp sata driver.
Good luck

Its an upgrade... and for all the pro vista bumholes, he still has the disk to install it later if and when the bugs are fixed.

I agree..Don't do it~
Vista is so many times better than WinXP..
It's a much stronger built O/S..
The drivers issues for Win XP will cause you so much more grief than you can imagine~!
As they say, just sit tight~! Im not sure what issues you have to cause you to want to revert backward but.. It will clear up.
My Vista version is and has been rock solid since day one. It's only but gotten better with each updates.
So, unless you have completely mess things up..(even then, going back to Vista is so much better~!) just sit tight~
Good Luck`!
