Question:
Dell Laptop Will Not Recognize Battery?

A friend of mine asked me to take a look at her laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. The problem is, the laptop will not recognize any battery. The original is in right now, and the computer displays a message at startup saying battery cannot be recognized or detected. When it is plugged in, the computer works fine, but at the bottom shows a red X over the battery icon. The batteries will not hold a charge either; as soon as I unplug the laptop it will immediately shut off no matter how long it's been plugged in. In an attempt to fix the problem, they purchased another battery (not sure the brand or anything, they just gave it to me) and it won't recognize this one either. I've done some research online and I found something about the drivers possibly being out of date. I had no idea batteries needed drivers, but if this is the solution then can someone let me know where I can find a driver update? Or if someone has another possible problem, I'm all ears.

Thank You!

" I unplug the laptop it will immediately shut off no matter how long it's been plugged in." this will cause operating system start up files to become corrupt if done to often.

Dell Support and download and update the BIOS with the new battery installed the charge the new battery to 100% before using on battery power. http://www.support.dell.com

Check the Dell support help files.

A battery is just a battery. It does not need any drivers.

Either the battery is busted or the plug and contacts inside the laptop will not charge it. Try to install and charge the battery in another similar laptop and see if it works or not.

Also some cheap counterfeit China batteries are know not work from the day you buy them. Buy an original Dell branded battery.

Here is one on ebay for $50 from a US seller, not from China:

@Bassman:

You don't need any BIOS update or any other kind of software for a battery, dude...
