Can you upgrade the processor on a Sony Viao Model: pcg-fr??? I can't install the new Adobe After Effects on my machine cause I need more processing power. But I won't pay $2,000 when I paid $4,000 for this machine 4 years ago. Can I just upgrade it? I've upgraded memory, but can't find out how to upgrade the cpu. Any ideas?

since it is a laptop, the processor is normally soldered straight to the motherboard. so i highly doubt that you would be able to actually change the processor.

You can but you'll need to post the specific laptop model or cpu type. Also keep in mind that you can only upgrade to the same generation of cpus. Meaning if you had a centrino (pentium m), you can upgrade to a faster pentium m, but you wont be able to upgrade to core 2 duo (a whole different model).

Also, the socket of the cpus must match, obviously or it just wouldnt fit physcially. Try posting again with more details on your laptop (specific model) and what cpu it has etc..

Just the fact that your laptop cost $4000, my guess is it probably already has the fastest cpu of its generation, leaving almost no headroom to upgrade anything.

Sony Vaio. I have been given my Sony Vaio computer 2 months in the past and that i like it a lot. The Compaqs I certainly have used interior the previous have all been loaded up with a lot pointless Anti-Virus utility and "secret agent sweepers," that finally make your pc slower. Sony frequently has a greater depended on call than Compaq besides. as quickly as I noted as the Sony tech help they have been certainly quite efficient, and spoke fluent English.

The first response is pretty much right on. The software was probably made for the newer computers.
