can you get us the laptop model?

resolution is important for high tech games, photo correction even movies... but you need a good graphic card! good ram & CPU...

so, To me;

- great for watching a movie

- but not as practical to see a document or text... (the size of the fonts are very small)

That kind of depends on the size of the LCD and your personal preference. Unlike what somebody else suggested, reducing the resolution to the next level down (1280x800) is not really practical as LCDs lose picture clearity when set to a lower-than-native resolution. If you find the text too small however, you can easily fix that by increasing the text size. That can be done by going to: Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > General > DPI settings. Since higher resolution means more desktop area AND the text can be set to any size you like, I'd generally recommend going with the highest resolution that makes sense money-wise.

It should be fine, unless you have really bad eyes. Some software is written to old standards and 4:3 proportion screens, so that type of thing might break, but you would be able to set your resolution to match if necessary.

You can always tell it to use a lower widescreen resolution.

You should be happy with it though.
