according to Gateway, if you press the F11 key at startup you should be presented with the Gateway System Recovery option. That will allow you to restore your computer to it's originally installed state.

Furthermore there should be an option under the start menu within windows to perform the same routine.

good luck

For windows 8 use the following steps to restore your computer.

Press the Windows key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.

Click Search, then type Recover.

Click Gateway Recovery Management.

Select Restore Factory Settings.

Click Next.

Select Fully clean the drive.

Click Reset.

Your computer will restart and begin the restoration process. Once finished, it will restart and begin the initial Windows setup process.

I really don't know what working for Microsoft has to do with the issue at hand. Why can't people simply post facts? If you don't know simply say nothing.

To the user searching for help, and others that may need this in the future, the factory reset option for Gatway laptops is:

hold down the ALT Key and repeatedly hit f10.

It will bring you to an options screen.

Make your selection there. That's it.

you can obtain the windows cd's after a good look on the internet (or we can mail you one for $10 + shipping). use the correct version of windows and after reloading you should be able to download all of the correct drivers for your model # from the mfg's site.

You can contact the manufacturer of the computer (Gateway in this case) and they will usually send you new restore discs in the mail. That's the only way I know of.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com
