I have recently just heard of Computer Writing Tablets. I am still in highschool, and I want to become a graphic designer when i grow up. I would like to know what exactly is a Computer Writing Tablet and how is it helpful for graphic designs in Photoshop?

Also, where can I get them, I have a Windows XP laptop. I heard that the Wacom Tablets, can only be used on Windows Vista. Is there an other brand of Tablet that is compatible with Windows XP?

Your answers are appreciated. Ty :)

Tablets are fun, they have a touch screen that swivles around and closes and oyu can use a stylis to write notes on it. I have seen many people use them in college, they are a great way to take notes and have copies ready to be made at the click of a button.

Tablet PC's are computers (laptops) that have a turning monitor so you can literally hold it in your hands like a notebook or tablet or on a desk to draw on.

That is probably what you are speaking of. Graphic designers can draw out images/designs/et c. on that Tablet PC and then edit them further in Photoshop or GIMP or what have you.

As for the Vista/XP clash... an Operating System can be downgraded (especially Windows). Just because it says that it comes with Vista or whatever you can still get XP on it (just install it over Vista). You should still be able to get the device drivers and software that you need in order to use the Tablet's drawing capabilites on XP as well. The only thing about Vista is that it has a lot of preinstalled drivers and software so you don't really have to do any dirty work and search the Internet for those.

Good luck and hope this helped!

A tablet is an alternate input device that allows you to control your mouse pointer with a stylus instead of a mouse. Some tablets are in the form of laptops (called tablet PCs) with touch-sensitive LCDs, allowing you to draw or write directly on the screen.

Other tablets are a separate input device that connects to either a serial or USB port. They have the same touch and pressure sensitivity of a touch-screen, but are strictly for input; the tablet itself offers no kind of visual feedback.

A tablet is essential for most types of computer art and design.

Also, Wacom has been making tablets for far longer then Vista has been around. Wacom tablets currently support Vista, but they don't require it.
