The thing is that the Mac haters out there have what is known as "contempt prior to investigation." They may think that they've investigated Macs because they've used one from time to time. I was one such person until about 2 years ago. I decided that despite not liking Mac, I should get one, and learn it since I'm a computer professional. It was only after using it heavily for a month or so when I realized certain things.

I never have to defragment it.

I never have to run registry cleaners.

I never have to run CCleaner.

I never have to run Malwarebytes.

I never have to do any maintenance of any kind! What a difference. PC users are jaded to the amount of time they spend just maintaining Windows. I realized with Mac I was getting a lot more done, because I was never wasting my time on maintenance tasks.

They are more expensive... up front. But because they last so long, and because they're so stable you won't need to hire people to fix it: over the long run, they have a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than a PC.

I made the switch in 2010, here are my experiences

Pros: The machine is faster than any PC i have used, even the new i7 ones. It boots in just under 30 seconds and shuts down in about 2 seconds

Battery life hits around 10 hours with internet on and screen on medium.

Keyboard lights up on laptops which is nice

The trackpad is better than any PC I have seen and multitouch is its best feature.

No viruses

No crashes

No breakdowns

No "Please restart to finnish updating"

Macs dont run out of memory to easilly

Macs now have an app store so finding software is no longer a problem

Cons:

You cant take the battery out

Theres no Blu-Ray although I've never cared for that much anyway

You have to restart the machine and use boot camp if you want windows programs

Not all external keyboards work, macs have extra keys

I liked the switch to mac, the OS is much easier to use than windows, although there is a slight learning curve. Macs are fun to use and generally get things done faster than any PC ever could

Its designed to be a better computer, and I can say Apple did a pretty good job

PS: If anyone says "They're overpriced" or anything along those lines, no they arent. You get what you pay for, a computer that will still run in 10 years, with no crashes and never needing any maintenance.

no, Mac's DON'T last forever, it's the same crappy chinese-made hardware with some bitten-in apple logos to make it more expensive-looking. And it's true for all apple-hardware, not just a mac.

However, for the computer-illiterate a mac does everything, hides all technical details, does not ask many questions but makes its own assumptions and defaults. If you have difficulties programming a microwave oven or a DVR, a mac is for you. But after you buy a mac, forget about installing any software that is not from apple, any hardware part that has no apple logo on it, just eveything that is not apple. It's the most closed hard/software you can imagine, Windows is open source compared to that.

The macbook is a good sturdy machine, which is made for daily computing needs such as surfing the web, streaming videos, running itunes, uploading photos, ect. Its battery life is great, and screen is large and easy to look at for long periods of time. Its made for users who will be doing pretty regular functions on a laptop. Over all its a good machine, and worth the 999$.

in my opinion macs are better if you want to bother less with security and more with making artistic materials. when it comes to making artistic thing mac are the best. if you have never used a mac before it will be a little different than using a window based PC. but you can learn easy.

however macs are always more expensive then windows.

Advantages = no viruses and they last for forever

Disadvantages = it's hard to find software for them and you have to get used to a new operating system. It's quite a bit different than windows.

They all do the same crap as a pc. I just don't have to pay for virus protection because no one writes virus's for them. Nor has my mac ever had any issues and I've had it for 4 years.
