every time I close my laptop, I lose connection, I have to diagnose the problem. How can I make the internet be permanently on?

It's probably because of your computer's sleep settings. When your computer's lid is closed, it probably goes into a battery-saving sleep mode, which shuts down everything except the memory. If you are willing to sacrifice some battery life, you can change the setting, depending on your operating system. For Windows XP (and probably others):
Go to the Control Panel and find Power Options. Under "Advanced", there is a title labeled "When I close the lid of my computer:"; set that to "Do Nothing".

I don't know what type of laptop you have but there should be a setting in your control panel or system preferences that allows the laptop to stay on even though the lid is closed. The reason you lose connection is because the computer shuts off all unnecessary hardware while it is in "sleep" mode that includes your wireless card.
Here is a program that will disable sleep mode, but this if for a Mac I dont know if it will work with a windows machine or not. InsomniaX

Often when a laptop is closed, it goes to sleep mode.
While in sleep mode it will disconnect internet connection and turns the whole computer off except for the ram so it can quickly turn back on.
I would suggest going to the power options and change what it does when it closes the lid.

in the 'change what closing the lid does' option, you can change it to 'do nothing', that way the screen will turn off, but everything stays running.
remember, this is ok while actively working with your laptop, but probably not a good idea in the long run.
also remember to turn your computer off when transporting it.

That's what happens to me. It's not designed to work whilst its shut. I'm in class right now

Leave it open then. They are designed to disconnect when closed.
