Question:
Does my laptop need a new dvd drive? (Nero failing)?

Ok so for some time now I have been converting like 5 avi movies to an iso, then burning the iso to dvd using roxio. Some of the movies/episodes i burn run slow on the dvd, but are perfect on the pc (ie. run at lower fps than normal, i can set the dvd one and pc one at the same point and 2 mins later the dvd one will be a fair bit behind).

I recently reformatted my computer, and decided i liked nero better. I have been using nero 7 suite (nero startsmart) with nero vision 4 to burn my dvds.

My intentions are to now burn 1 avi to dvd, as i need it better quality to play on a higher resolution tv. So nero converts the 700mb avi to 4.37gb, transcoding it and the menus fine. It then gets to the point to burn the dvd, but runs into an error. It is a very general error message - "Error failed to burn" or something like that.
The first dvd I did worked. The same error came up, except at the end of the burning process, not before. However when i play this dvd, parts are jumpy or pause up. Now it just doesnt start the burn process, and the dvd is left blank after transcoding the avi.

Also, when i insert certain cds/dvds into my laptops drive, the laptop pauses up and nothing happens until i eject the drive, when it instantly unpauses and is fine again. I take the cds to my other pc (older desktop - WinXP) in which they work fine - no pausing up and it shows the data on them (note these discs do not have much data on them at all)

Lastly, when i reformatted two months ago, it took 2 attempts to read my legit vista boot disc. When i reformatted last week (i wanted to make new partitions and change raid volume so i could dual boot xp and vista) it would not read my xp boot disc, and it took about 10 attempts to read my vista boot disc.
The xp boot disc was created with a torrent (.daa) and the laptops burner, so i was sketchy if it would read it, but my desktop (has xp 32bit installed) read the boot disc, however was unable to use it as it cannot run a 64bit OS (the laptop can).

Oh and i forgot to mention, i installed nero on my WinXP desktop and it burnt perfectly first attempt. Also when the vista boot cd is inserted and cd is in the boot order in bios (even if below internal harddrive) it takes AGES to boot up the harddrive, but speeds up when i eject the disc.

So all this failure to read discs, errors in burning and pausing up when certain discs are inserted leads me to believe the dvd drive is in need of replacement (its still in warranty)
