My old laptop is really really slow even though there's not much on it.

When i got a new laptop i took off most of the programs on the old one. The only thing that's really on there is photos and about 4 videos.. no music or anything.

Is there any way of making it run faster?

Thanks

restore it like the other poster recommended, if that does not speed things up the hard drive could be failing, but if it's an old install of windows it has a way of beating itself up over time

Defrag your HDD

Defrag your registry

Defrag your memory

Realign programs on you HDD

clean out as much clutter as possible

Remove redundant software

Stop using as many background programs as you can (only use leave them on if they must be on for something to run)

Extra ram is a good idea but may not be worth it.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND opening you're laptop unless you really know what you are doing. If you don't you could damage it badly. A little dust and gonna cause too many problems. If you are concerned then have it professionally cleaned.

Also not recommended....OVERCLOCKING bad idea but it will speed up your laptop.

Use disk cleanup and disk defragmenter, might help speed up your hard drive a bit.

Uninstall anything you don't need

Stop any start-up programs that aren't necessary

Add some RAM to your computer.

Open up your laptop and clean out all the dust.

The best way is with no money. See link from source or if not seen go to http://www.ehow.com/how_4431973_make-laptop-faster-buying-anything.html.

1. Keep it cool.

2. Shut down unneeded programs before using power-hungry software like games or large spreadsheets.

3. Use anti-virus software regularly to get rid of threats to you computer.

4. Get rid of spyware.

5. Review the contents of your hard drive. Sounds like you already did this.

6. Defrag your hard drive.

Hope this helps...David T.

You could restore it back to factory settings. The only thing you could update on it is ram (Unless you already have the max) And maybe the hard drive. You could try a clean out, and run defrag.

I would recommend you just remove Windows. It is useless for such a laptop. Try something like Linux; Ubuntu or LinuxMint. My old Latitude sucked with Windows XP, but when I was using Ubuntu 10.04, it just ran very good!

there is no way some people use softwares for fasting computers but i think that don't work so install a new window that will fast your laptop a little bit faster.
