I have a toshiba r25 labtop my music started to sound distorted for the second time so I back up my files and try to reset it to factory settings. I did it before but now it gave me a error message that it could not complete the reset. Now I turn the computer on it shows the toshiba logo and then I get this message "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll.
please re-install a copy of the above file."
I have the factory cd in the drive but it doesn't do anything if I press any key it reboots and thats all it does.
Thanks in advance

in the laptops bios you must chose to boot off the cd/dvd drive first. Make sure your cd is in the drive

Your install of windows is corrupt, and the easiest solution is to reformat it.

http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm

Follow the instructions.
