I have 2 partitions and an external hard drive that are always running on my laptop (acer travelmate 4150), drive C:\ has windows xp(home edition), drive D:\ windows Vista and my external hdd has games and some programs on it(not sure if this first part will be relevant)

so anyway i usually use windows vista but i decided to start doing some things on xp but when i started it up i logged in and the system was down to a crawl, and then came up with a message saying that it had installed some hardware and wanted me to restart, so i did this and now the system crashes when it gets past the xp boot screen or sometimes just goes black after the xp boot screen.

so if done some research and some virus/malware/spyware(i think spyware) and nothing come up, but some strange thory to 'warm the system up' before booting up.

if you have any solutions please help, thanks.

also i thought id mention that a few weeks ago i decided to take out the dvd/cd drive because it corrups the system when it starts and plug in a different dvd drive when needed.

if anymore info is needed just post

thanks

Update your spyware then do a full scan twice this should take care of it. I'd also run my virus scan the best of these two are free. AVG Free Edition for virus and Lavasoft Ad-Aware for the spyware. If you are running Norton's take it off, Norton's is no good. I do not believe there's any place to download a XP operating system but you can format and reinstall it. In 2009 Microsoft is not going to give any updates for XP so will have to go to Vista. Now that sucks. Good luck hope this helps.

Hi there,

You might try system restore to a point before the problem.

It sounds like a driver problem with your DVD drive but a system restore may fix the problem.

If that does not work you will need to reinstall your Win XP O/S.

Hope this helps,

I think That thes two things could have happened

first, One of the boot files for windows is corupt or not there i wish i could tell you which one

Second, If you partitioned your harddrive you have to be sure you did it correctly if not the boot files for xp could be some where else
