Recently, my hard drive crashed. We bought a new one, I successfully installed it and reinstalled the operating system, but now for some reason I can't connect to the internet. Before I'd be able to use the wifi up at my room. But now, when I connect the modem cable, it doesn't do anything. There is no "local area connection" or anything, only the default msn connection. I'm using windows XP, and I've tried using the "create a new connection" thing but nothing seems to be working. The modem I'm using is a 2wire from at&t. I tried putting in the OS disk again to maybe try and install any missing drivers, but it said everything was up to date. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's worked before on my old hard drive.. I'm quite at loss on what to do. I've been playing with creating new connections and networks but I've had no luck. Laptop I'm using is an IBM thinkpad.

Right click on My Computer

Hardware>Device Manager

Click the + in front of Network Adapters

See what you have for WLAN device

Click on Browse Products and select your laptop model

Download the WLAN driver and transfer it to your laptop from thumb drive or disc

i am sure you are missing drivers you dont sound too experienced in this but not daft. You gotta check in the device manager, right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, anything driverless will show up with a yellow triangle. The os only supply's basic drivers rest are individual

this suggests which you are able to not use instant on your laptop. in certainty it would not have the instant "chip". you may desire to besides the undeniable fact that improve your laptop via installation a instant card internally. or you may desire to purchase a usb adaptor, which plugs right into a usb port and may be bumped off. I definitely have 2 of them and that they artwork large!
