Hello I recently received a computer no less than a year ago. This computer is a dell inspiron 1521. Its uses an ATI Radeon x1270 video card with windows vista. I play an old game called counter strike. My friends say that I have random glitches that I do not notice on my screen. They said that it has something to do with my video card. Is this a video card issue? If so, what settings should my card or game have to run the game more smoothly?

If you don't notice it on your screen, it's got nothing to do with the video card. Is it a stuttering with online play? That's a connectivity issue.

Hello,

If the problem really is video, you should only consider updating the video card. If that does not fix it, and it was there since you installed the game... then best option is a new video card. Each video card does not display the game the same way. So what you see, is not always what I see on mine.

Check your options, graphics, and make sure the resolution and advanced details are what you need.

Are we talking about the original HL Counterstrike? It's difficult to approach your question. You don't really specify what the problem is (sorry, "glitch" can mean anything) and since you haven't seen the problem yourself, it's unclear if there is a problem. It would be easy to say "go get new drivers" but that could (possibly) cause more problems than cure - why bother if uneccessary?

If these friends are playing online w/you, the glitches could have to do more with your LAN or internet connection.

The first thing to do is go to the dell site, go to support and see if there are any updates available for the video card. The game should tell you which settings are best, for the game and the video card, check it's options.

you have to set the game to a either

a. a higher quality

or...

b. go to settings and release some of the power the video card is using because the game cant handle the texture

In the control panel>display>settings>advanced settings.

set your video card to defaults.

Then in the video game options, Video.

lower some of the settings such as:

resolution

shaddows

distance

textures

etc. then sestart the game.
