I need to know how to get into my Gateway Laptop (Model 6518GZ) to repair, or replace the power jack. I have replaced the power cord, so I know that is not the problem. I need to know which screws to remove to split the cases

Generally there is a service manual that will tell you this. If you had a Thinkpad, this would be alot easier. LOL. Use this link to find the component replacement guide. It will tell you how to remove things like the keyboard. It will not necessarily tell you how to do a teardown though.

Generally you have to remove the keyboard first, than the keyboard bezel (border) if needed. You may have to remove the LCD screen but that is generally 3-4 screws. Screws may have stickers over top of them that look like indentations. You can remove these with a flat blade screw driver. You may need precision torx or philips drivers to remove some of the screws.

Good Luck.

so which you're saying which you plug on your skill jack and the cpu would not charge? yet you got yet another twine and a similar factor nonetheless is occurring? .. The computing device computing gadget would not carry a charge once you plug a jack into it. that's going to activate and paintings, however the charge is the place the battery is accessible in available. in case you prefer a charge have you ever considered the difficulty being the battery no longer preserving a charge? because of the fact that no different component of the computing device holds a charge, to boot CMOS.

I can tell you what is wrong but am not sure how to get it apart since I am not that up to date on Gateway.Where the power plugs in the computer is soldered it probably has a broken solder joint.I have saw this happen many times.
